Portraiture Shooting Assignment

My experiencing in shooting these photos of Kelsey was interesting. At first it was awkward and forced but as we progressed it got more natural. I developed a liking towards a more candid shot, shooting when not ready or aware/posed for natural looking finish. Also it was helpful to act out pose I want her to copy and taking several shots at once and choosing best out of the repeated shots and at different angles is nice too. It was fun and a cool experience had some struggles such as wrong settings means blurry photo or not how I want but pros is many photos angles perspectives etc.

Identity Project

My favorite phrase is drink water, I don't really live by a specific motto but I like drink water because it's short and simple and it's very important.
I identify myself as someone who enjoys simple but lux type. The fine things of live in a simple way. My sketchbook consists of a marble statue, plants, lights, water, part of a psychic place. The statue is composed of minimal things but results as a beautiful creation, the plants and water with hints of trees and sharp purple lights are just all the combinations of elements that i try to portray with minimalism and a touch of spark
I'm somewhat satisfied with the overall cover. I wish I did some other cool editing things but no time. I spent too long editing little things but the result is kinda nice. It could be better.

Elaine Gates Recap

Cool useful tips from Elaine Gates on how to take good portraits.
  • Create a personal style for your shots (gritty, vibrant, dull etc)
  • Minimalist photographer - take as if using film; less editing
  • Showcase model's personality
  • Composition
  • Good lighting
  • Interaction with model
  • Angles and Perspectives of the model (that flatters their face and body type)
  • Golden hour, HR before sun sets. (soft light, no harsh overhead lighting)
  • Relax. Give positive feedback.
  • Being above the model, especially for woman is more flattering rather than up on the model.
  • Tips for backlighting
  • Place the model in a position where the sun is behind them.
  • Get close to the skin meter exposure.
  • Most of the time you should underexpose to get proper exposure.
  • Use rule of thirds, sometimes center model.
  • Pay special attention to lighting and composition,
  • Be creative with cropping and changing camera angles.
  • Demonstrate how you want your model to pose or do.
  • Model should bring clothes and props or objects that represent them.
  • Choose a versatile location and also find nice shade that compliments them.
  • Keep rotating the model or move around the model to find the most flattering angle.
  • Meter the face of the model for good lighting.
  • Lastly, take portrait photos with a low aperture (f/stop) (emphasize subject, blur background)
