PENN LIVE

The article was about how the Grand Jury decided that the man responsible for the death of an innocent african-american teenager, Darren Wilson got off scott free. This angered many people across the country and a cry for justice had to be done. People are rallying up to protest to the government on how this is not fair and finding justice for Mike Brown. The photos displayed powerful emotions on the modern injustice on the people of color and minorities in America and the corrupt government we have. I like that there's truth and that is reveals the bad side of the ones in power of our country. The article informs people what's going on and what's happening and opens people's mind and try to make them understand the difficulties minorities face today in a oppressive country that hides under the mask of protection.

ROBIN BOWMAN - IT'S COMPLICATED: THE AMERICAN TEENAGER

Patrick Roberts, 19 from KS. To sum up his parents divorced due to the fact that his mother is lesbian, this event influenced him to grow up faster and develop different perspective most peers don't usually view. He admits his faith is weak and shares his angsts and fears, such as the unknown, having a child, being a father, death etc. He has a sense of unsurity and oftentime feelings of lonliness. His role model that gives him optimism is his older brother. He shares his opinion and political views on the government, expressing more liberal sides. He talks about war and how corrupt the government system is, his dislikes to Bush and he ends his interview and story by talking about the good things of being a teenager, the little things.

PROCESSING THE NEWS

PROCESSING THE NEWS
REAL EYES REALIZE REAL LIES
Photojournalism makes you think deeper.
Every digital photo ever made as been processed, some more than others
Everything that is created for the public eye has a purpose. The goal specifically, in photojournalism, is to simply aim to tell a story captured in the photo. Pictures can be a great way to share photos about events happening around us. As people observe the photos, they will observe the details and meaning behind the photos, evoking some kind of reaction or opinion, mood therefore creating more depth and meaning behind it.

The broken trust between the public and photojournalists are a great fear. To prevent the broken trust, photojournalists are highly cautious in what they post; presenting the photo with little to no altercations, for the purpose of informing where it's a clear message, no mind games and propaganda techniques. Real. Not superficial images hiding truth behind what's captured. Acceptions are minor editing such as cropping and enhancing in color

Photojournalism Project Proposal

I would take pictures on black friday at capitol city mall to display the event of black friday.
Through photos of shoppers, people in the mall I would just present, display the event of people, shopping. In lines, their behavior and the workers and the stores and i could talk about how it's declining in customers or how a specific store could be popular.. + maybe add phone pictures that does show story/event but varies different place/etc.

SHOOTING ASSIGNMENT

Here are pictures of people coming together to have a good time and share it with hundreds of other strangers. Pictures of the opening act guest sky ferriera shows a more passionate meloncholy vibe and gives a dreamy dazed performance. Vampire weekend ends with a more cheerful ecstatic beat and gets the crowd excited. The thought process was to at first take pictures of only the people on stage, but then I feel like I should take a picture of my surroundings also. Some difficulties I encountered included the filled crowd and with little space to move an inch and constant movement and moshing, photos resulted in blurs.

portrait blog assignments

Senior Portrait Article
"Windy day into an opportunity rather than an obstacle" caught my eye because instead of being discouraged for something I have no control of (weather/temperature/lighting/etc) and all the prior planning, I just became innovative and made something out of whatever the surrounding will be for my model.

Portrait Examples

Sky Ferreira by sandy Kim
Candid looking into mirror expressionless
Looking at own reflection with more reflection also can't see photographer gives cool look mirrors in photo is cool idea

 Frida by marcel Castenmiller
Candid looking outside
Looking out into horizon with warm expression of nostalgic like feeling inside car can symbolize many things like time

 Sky Ferreira by sandy Kim
Bored expression
Looking at camera with not forced expression just doing candid things like chewing gum blowing bubbles postured casually

Kirsten Dunst Sofia Coppola
candid
Lighting and pug and bed surrounding gives a morning look and lighting gives a nice emotion to photo although there's no smile and it's just candid, it's like a start of a day
Natasha Poly by Tim Walker
Looking at camera posed for fashion shoot
The accessories and makeup makes a boring background pop .
Sara [Ziff], 19, shops in SoHo
New York, New York by Lauren greenfield
Candid looking at something kind of seeming distressed
Her bright blue background contrasts with the dirty streets and her skin is glowing under the sun and is light compared to anything else. Overall she's like the focus of the photo with good angle and lighting.

Jim Morrison Joel Brodsky
Expression: he was intoxicated in this photo but the photographer captured a good image of him . Candid image looking through camera
The photo itself is very simplistic and sometimes more isn't always better
Kate moss Corinne day
Expression staring out somewhere candid
The sepia and also simplistic background and apparel is very nice along with the contrast between her face shadows hair which emphasizes her expression u can see her eyebrows make a kind of squint because of how bright the natural light is giving

'Purity Of White' Jacquelyn Jablonski by Julia Noni for Vogue Japan May 2014
Looking at camera no expression really
The use of shadow was captured nicely how it splits 1/2 her face and emphasize her gaze

Chloe Sevigny photographed by Juergen Teller
Expression staring into camera posed in a way that isn't very trying hard it's a relaxed type
I like the simple colors that at the same time pop with while also everyhing remains balanced. The faded orange pants with blues make the colors look stronger and not so strong is washes out her face or shirt it's like a enhancement of the photo and without the chair she couldn't be really in that pose

.
Expression Panel
Crop 9x13

Portraiture

Meet Kelsey. She displays a cheerful and bubbly image also having traits of wonder and grace.
She has a smile that would always lift you up and in the photos her baby face displays her innocence and bliss. She's a small town girl but the world is a companion for her anywhere.

It was fun and while it was an assignment it also acted as a nice bond with a friend. Some unsurity on what to do but impulsivity was more productive in this assignment.
Overrall I'm happy with the results, some pictures that were too repetitive in same spot but it's okay because there were lots of pictures with variety too.
Also Kelsey is satisfied with the results along with some others I shared sample photos with.

Tips
Take pictures. Like as you're walking to destination point, walk ahead look back take photos or stay behind stay photos, take lots at once make the model show candid expressions.

Challenges & Achievements
Adjusting the f stop and shutter speeds when lighting changes, it was slow to adjust. But communication was good. I showed her poses to do and I remembered to take pictures from several different angles, took lots of photos to narrow down to the best ones I took. Took pictures constantly from candid shots to posed.

Portraiture Shooting Assignment

My experiencing in shooting these photos of Kelsey was interesting. At first it was awkward and forced but as we progressed it got more natural. I developed a liking towards a more candid shot, shooting when not ready or aware/posed for natural looking finish. Also it was helpful to act out pose I want her to copy and taking several shots at once and choosing best out of the repeated shots and at different angles is nice too. It was fun and a cool experience had some struggles such as wrong settings means blurry photo or not how I want but pros is many photos angles perspectives etc.
